With reading skills and comprehension at the forefront of nearly every aspect of education, districts such as Bryan ISD often partner with firms like “Scholastic” to utilize reading intervention programs—and success in those programs can garner national attention.
Bryan ISD recently learned that two middle school students (both from SFA Middle School), one high school student, and one instructor have all been named to Scholastic’s All-Star and Outstanding Educator Awards, respectively. Only six students are selected nationwide at the middle and high school levels for Read 180 and System 44, and only five instructors in the country are named as finalists. The district is proud to recognize their accomplishments.
The All-Star Student finalists are:
Abel Vergara, SFA Middle School for Read 180
Dwayne Richards, SFA Middle School for System 44
Maria Pantoja, M.C. Harris School for Read 180
The Outstanding Educator finalist is:
Stacy Beal, Bryan High School
Scholastic’s “Read 180” and “System 44” programs comprise reading interventions for middle and high school students. The All-Star awards recognize the outstanding achievements of students from these programs who have overcome reading challenges to succeed in school. The Scholastic Outstanding Educator award recognizes the exceptional commitment of Read 180 and System 44 educators who have helped students overcome reading challenges.
Scholastic expects to name the top award winners in early April.
