Watts replaces outgoing principal Todd Hopkins, who announced earlier this summer he accepted a position at Forney ISD to be closer to family. Bryan ISD Superintendent Tommy Wallis is confident that Watts has the skills and experience necessary to lead MC Harris.
“Mr. Watts has held positions of increasing responsibility in service to children over the years,” Wallis said. “He successfully turned around programs in Brenham, and we’re excited to bring his strong leadership skills and heart for young people into the Bryan ISD family.”
Watts served as principal of the PRIDE Academy and DAEP in Brenham ISD since 2015. Prior to that, he held the positions of associate principal, assistant principal, teacher and coach.
He is a former all-state baseball player from Brenham High School who played for two state championship-winning teams in 1986 and 1987. Watts went on to play baseball at Tarleton State University, Blinn College and the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. He continues to coach youth football, little league and a select basketball team.
Watts holds a master’s degree in education from Prairie View A&M University, a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice from the University of Louisiana-Lafayette and an associate degree from Blinn College.
