It is my pleasure and privilege to serve as Principal of the Mary Catherine School (MC Harris) . MC Harris offers students of the Bryan Independent School District a great opportunity to complete their high school education. We foster a nontraditional setting using both a traditional teaching approach for our End-of-Course classes (Algebra I, Biology, English I, English II, and U.S. History) and a computer self-paced learning approach in other academic areas. We also offer a High School Equivalency Program (HSEP) where students can earn a General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
The 2013-2014 school year brought many changes to MC Harris. Student enrollment increased as did our number of graduates. MC Harris graduated a total of 153 students for the 2014 school year! Another change brought the creation of the Basic Machinist Program to our campus in the Spring semester. With the help of the district CTE department, district Transportation department, Blinn Junior College, and Brazos Valley Workforce Solutions, we were able to offer this program to a group of students who successfully completed their certification as a Basic Machinist. We will look to continue this program again this year. Other successful changes included the creation of several student clubs, student participation in the HYPE job fair, the creation of an Elementary DAEP student mentor program, and a more concerted effort in project based learning.
We are looking forward to another exciting year of growth both for our campus and for our students in the 2014-2015 school year. The staff at MC Harris values each student and is dedicated to helping them reach their goal of graduating from high school. We strongly believe that our students are the STARS that make MC Harris shine!
